In early November, our family took a road trip to Joshua Park National Park. This is the second trip we took with a few other close friends and their families. Every year the kids would find new adventures and develop new bonds, the parents will enjoy a few days of no cellphone service, no TV, and completely immersed into nature.

Last year, I discovered this website where you can rent RVs. Because Joshua Tree campground doesn’t have running water, it’s easier to drive in with an RV for a three-day camping trip. The website is called https://www.outdoorsy.com/ and it’s essentially an Airbnb for RVs.

A few tips and tricks for anyone who is interested in visiting Joshua Tree.

  • The campground we stayed at is called Jumbo Rock Campground and is one of the most family-friendly sites.
  • Pack jeans or corduroy pants because there are many cactus species along the walking path and we learned a hard lesson. (I had to pluck a number of hair-thin spikes out of my four-year-old’s buttocks..)
  • Gloves are a must, not for the weather but for protecting the hands when bouldering
  • A few easy hikes for young kids include Skull Rock trail, Hidden Valley and just simply explore the area around the campground. Nothing beats the fun of finding your own path.
  • Since Joshua Tree is in the desert, the air is extremely dry. Lotions, lip balms are super helpful.

If you are interested in my packing list, please shoot me an email, happy to share what I prepared for our family of four.

Thanks for visiting my site!
