The Academy Award is one of my favorite event to watch every year. Growing up in China, the only few foreign movies that I remember watching were classic Hollywood films like “Gone With the Wind” and “Roman Holidays”. Since my best friend Hyunok first introduced me to real movies theaters when I moved to the States, I was hooked immediately and became a movie junkie since then.

There is something special about movies, a good one can take you away from the world you live in. You laugh and cry with the characters, you are fascinated by the music and the amazing cinematography. Most of the time, a good story would touch your soul, leaving you feeling a little more vulnerable, but a lot more human.

After becoming a mom, I no longer celebrate the Oscar night with single friends and fancy dresses. I still love watching the show after the kids go to sleep, with some wine, in my pajamas, cheering for the amazing people who contributed to the movie industry.

After all, movies are worth celebrating. Anything that awakes our soul and preserves humanity is worth celebrating.

Here is a self-portrait of me in a light that reminds me of the dramatic cinematography. Hope you like it!
